As much as I enjoy playing as Gaige, the Mechromancer, I'm in between of recommending and not recommending the DLC. Deathtrap is what makes up my mind to not recommend it, he's too buggy that he's barely being useful (at least that is what I feel). 1. Deathtrap uses Buck Up when you are in Fight For Your Life (FFYL), which purposes to be useless as he won't be regenerating your shield. 2. If you are shooting an enemy at a long distance, Deathtrap won't even bother helping you out, instead he would just stand still doing nothing while waiting for his time to burn out. 3. Sometimes when you summon Deathtrap, he tends to chase other enemy that is within his sights that you don't intend to pick a fight with. I find this very frustrating. 4. Deathtrap dies very quick in higher level of difficulty. Few shots and he's dead. 5. Deathtrap sometimes cast Robot Rampage at rather bad time which sometimes won't even hit the enemy he's targeting. 6. Upon casting One Two Boom, Deathtrap sometimes forget what he's summoned for. Doings exactly nothing after unleashing the orb when the enemy is right near him. 7. I always find Deathtrap using The Stare at the wrong enemy (with fire resistance) or Crystallisk (which is immune to damage dealth other than its critical spots). 8. Deathtrap initiates and/or enters a fight badly timed. It sucks to have him blocking my view when I'm shooting an enemy and the case is even worse when I'm nearly having my FFYL gauge depleted and he blocks, taking away my Second Wind when I have the chance to kill. However, this seems to be what I am experiencing, whether or not you will experience the same as I do is not of my knowledge. I still enjoy playing Deathtrap-less build though.
