There is a reason why the Darktide soundtrack costs more than the game itself, in many ways, it is unironically the greatest artistic contribution to the collective cultural identity of Warhammer 40k and video games as an art form in general. An absolutely iconic, masterclass work of unprecedented craftsmanship that will now forever be apart of the ever genuine argument that video games, and the sum of all their parts, are the greatest form of modern artistic expression. Jesper Kyd has been making some of the most unique and cherished soundscapes in games since the Hitman series, as well as some of his best work actually being in the sadly forgotten Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. While far more well known, at least until now, for his contributions to the Assassin's Creeds IP, Jesper Kyd has come out with an absolute masterpiece without peers. It is better than what people who even appreciate it know. Anyone with any knowledge of audio engineering and music making, are aware that this soundtrack has artistic integrity that surpasses that of the also very talented Mick Gordon. But ultimately, this is an example of a soundtrack that is so high concept and high brow, the fact it was made for a 40k IP title really just shows just how much more soul the IP has than any of its contemporaries in the genre. The soundtrack is worth the Imperial Edition more than the actual game itself.
