The randomized new world is a fun spin on the game, and is quite interesting to play with, although it could be improved a bit. (My wish was granted, it was improved significantly.) Federations are interesting and a unique addition to the game, and the migration mechanic is an interesting addition to the game. And I would say that playing as a colonial nation is probably the best part about this DLC, it is very fun to do. I would recommend getting this DLC for EU4.

EU4 DLC - Conquest of Paradise I've decided to go ahead and start reviewing eu4 dlc to better clarify which are great and which should be skipped. The expansion to start them all, and what better off to start with than the New World? The features page on this DLC is extermely misleading because it implies purchasing the DLC will grant access to colonial nations. This is false, this was included in the free patch ages ago and is fully available to anyone who owns vanilla. That said it does offer a variety of features that can help improve new world gameplay. This DLC isn't like most of the modern ones that lump a major feature with regional ones enticing more people to buy it, this one is very strictly based in new world related gameplay. I like it a great deal as a result but if you don't play in the New World a significant amount (as a native or colonizer) then this is a completely useless DLC. Support Independence One funny thing I noticed is that not only is this not mentioned on this store page, the wiki page outright says this is a free feature... it isn't, though it should be. I've expressed by distaste for this being locked behind a paywall already in my El Dorado review, but it really isn't a big deal that is is on the other hand and it is rather nice to have. Still if this is what you want and nothing else interests you in this DLC, get El Dorado instead. Playing as CNs I think this is probably the best feature, if not biggest, that this DLC has to offer. Not only is it entirely fair to put it as a DLC, but it is really a fun and underrated way to play the game. Some of my best games have been as colonial Brazil dominating South America and colonizing Australia, or whatever. This aspect of the game keeps getting better too as CNs were reworked in the most recent (Spain) patch and a few new formables were added (Texas, California). It's a great feature. Playing as Natives I want to make this extermely clear: This is not a DLC to play as the Andes or Mesoamerican civilizations. This DLC is primarily for the smaller tribes that are sprawling across North and South America, such as the Apache or Mapuche. This is NOT meant for playing the Aztecs or Cuzco-Inca. Both are possible on vanilla but are vastly improved with El Dorado, an entirely different DLC that focuses on the empires of the Americas. This one is meant for the small scale tribes. Do not get this thinking otherwise. That said, if you have any interest whatsoever in playing as a small American tribe, maybe Iroquois or something, this DLC is pretty much necessary. Without it playing as tribes is essentially impossible and is extermely boring. I'm not saying it's fun with this DLC (though that's up to taste), but it is far more enjoyable than without it. Random New World This is a neat little feature that can vary colonial games drastically by spawning random new continents, and is frankly the poster child of this DLC. I don't use it too often but it is an enjoyable option, especially in multiplayer. You can even customize how it is set up, spawning things like norse native americans or jewish empires in the americas. Lots of entirely ahistorical options are open. High American tech might even spawn (better than western) in fantasy settings, not entirely sure. One overlooked feature is that it also unlocks two other modes, one where the entire map is replaced with randomly generated nations (which is honestly really dumb and pretty much nobody ever uses it), and one extermely fun option where every nation is shuffled on the map. What I mean by this is a nation like France could rule all of China while a nation like Cuzco could be chilling in the Indian subcontinent. Makes for a couple of fun games. Final Verdict With all said and done this is a relatively good DLC that fullfills a specific niche. While it can be argued that this DLC is a weaker version of El Dorado, they fullfill entirely different needs and should be considered separate. I would give this a 7/10 since it fullfills it's purpose, even if this page is misleading. Make sure to look over El Dorado first though, chances are what you actually want are packaged in El Dorado and you can skip this one.

Turn back ... turn back my friend ... this is the great gateway to DLC-Hell, the door of expansions madness. Don't buy them all, go outside, enjoy life without us. We are already doomed. Or, at least, wait for the inevitable announcement of EUV ; fertilized by our now-empty wallets and the many tears we shed ...
