Nowadays the game doesn't work without the Common Sense DLC, since you need development to get institutions if you play a country outside of Europe. Buy this and Art of War when they're on sale. Don't pay full price for this or you're just encouraging Paradox by telling them that people are actually willing to pay their outrageous prices. This is a thumbs up because you should buy this DLC if you play EU4, but a thumbs down for bad, overpriced DLC.

👍 Good
As a player with over 1.500 hours in the game, I am nothing less than shocked at the flow of hatred coming off of this dlc. In my opinion, this is one of the most worthwhile dlc's that PDX has put out. Let's break it down according to features and how useful they actually are: New Religious Gameplay- Super nice to have a fleshed out Prodestant Faith, it's really so good that I'm tempted to go Prodestant every game (ie. Prodestant Russia) As far as the Buddhist issue is concerned, this dlc killed Buddhism, but the new patch with the Cossacks has greatly fixed that issue, making it too, much more interesting. Devotion- As well as the other additon to the theocracies, this is a nice update that makes these nations much more interesting, the only concern: there just aren't that many theorcracies in game. But if you have the intrest in ever playing one, ever, than it's worthwhile. Subject Interactions- One of those small things that doesn't sound that great, but really makes a difference in the things you can do with subjects. Not essential for playing the game, but something that now that I have, I would never want to go back. Parliament- This one is a bit strange. If you play it the way it's supposed to be played, than a fun internal management issue. But I, like many others, forget the Parliment even exists, as it's much more effient to just ignore Parliment, never pass any issues, and give every provinve a seat, taking the minor legitimacy hit. However, at that rate, the Enlightened Absolutism is about as good, and less tedious. Provincial Improvements- This feature is something that the devs planned to happen one way, but the real application works completly different. You only ever end up improving provinces if you are at the monarch point cap, as it is always better to conquer land than improve it (about 5 times more efficent actually), but it ends up working out in your favor even more by conquring by the amount that small AI nations (usually HRE) develop land that you can conquer and core for a cheaper price. This works doubly so by keeping vassals for hundreds of years and then annexing them (ie: Ottoman game with 100+ development Wallachian 3 provinces). Either way, super useful feature that makes the whole world a lot more developed. Free Cities of the HRE- Meh... Not much of anything to note Government Ranks-Nice feature, as the +1 diplomat from kingdoms and +1 general slot for empires is very handy Final Thoughts- To be honest, the best part about Common Sense is the patch 1.13 change to get rid of on-arrival attrition in place of monthly ticks. I would reccomend this DLC to everyone, however, you should take advantage of a steam sale or go to arumba.tv/games and use gamefanshop to get the best deals. If this was useful, a *helpful* rating would be appreciated to allow others to see the post. Thanks for reading and have a nice day :)
I`ve played England more times than I can count, pretty much every 3rd game or so. Seeing as I have just about a 1000 hours played that should say a lot. Common Sense fleshes out peacetime gameplay and religion, while at the same time expanding upon monarchy and provincial management. If your game is colonization, trade or that of our Bavarian overlord (Take that, Von Habsburg!), this is the DLC for you!
👎 Bad
