playing the game is like torture but the story and world are so cool that i highly recommend
Rapture is still one of the coolest settings in gaming. Great atmosphere, memorable story, fun powers, and a lot of little details that make the world feel alive. The remaster has a few rough edges, but the game itself is absolutely worth playing. 9/10

this is worse than the original port in most aspects. the sheer amount of visuals that they broke in this version is astounding, basically every frame of the game from start to finish has something either wrong or missing. yeah they added some stuff but a poorly-scaled starfish on a window hardly makes up for significantly lower quality water effects (if they aren't just outright missing lmao). the audio quality is unbelievably bad by comparison which was shocking considering this version is literally 4 times larger than the original in storage size. yet the audio is more compressed, worse sounding, and without any of the reverb effects in the original. wtf? and more cofusingly, all that storage bloat went to upscaled textures that just don't look very good. they're hardly an upgrade on the originals, more of a sidegrade, and even if the texture is better they're so often misplaced or erroneously put somewhere they shouldn't be. there are rooms where an entire wall or floor has some completely randomly assigned texture that was never meant to be there and was never an issue in the original version. there are textures that have not had their height or pbr applied correctly, many of which are in the first 10 minutes btw. I mean FFS, just compare the lighthouse and its room with the statue between both versions. this "remaster" visually pales in comparison completely, what once was wet and shiny is now flat and matte. what before had vibrance to it is desaturated and lacking in contrast. there is nothing visually or aesthetically worth playing this "remaster" for. it's only worth forcing yourself to play if you absolutely MUST get the achievements or see the director's reels in-game (and not on YouTube?). it sucks. just play the original. still holds up, and it's better than this one. you may think "oh that's so nitpicky they're just minor details who cares" .. but it's a REMASTER. and again, every single area of every level in the game having at least one visual issue is not minor by any means. the entire purpose of it is to take an older quality game, refine its quality to be at least acceptable for modern platforms, and thereby create the definitive way of playing it. this game fails at that. if you don't care about visual differences at all then I guess more power to you, even though that's most of the point of this thing's existence.. and finally, the reason more important than any other reason not to play this crap; they retained basically all of the bugs and potential crashes of the original while also basically doubling the amount of both by introducing a magnitude of new issues. it's honestly baffling this wasn't more controversial than it was, it's not too dissimilar to the Arkham remasters in just how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful it is while also being WORSE than the original. P.S: I fiddled with mods, all the essentials..tried to salvage this crap experience with stuff made by people who don't mind doing the developers' jobs for them.. unfortunately the game is still laden with issues in spite of all the fixes and textures and what not available. I took screenshots and video for comparison sake and time and time again, the BEST case scenarios were when this version was.. on par with the original.. never better. I still commend the modders' efforts of course, it just seems like the mountain of problems to solve will take quite some time even still to get through,.despite this port's age.
This game is one of the greatest games of all time. However, this version of the game is ridiculously buggy and crashes so much you can't play it. That's why the basic achievements a player would complete just by finishing the game have such low accomplishment. Nobody can make it to the end because they eventually can't even do anything in the game without it crashing.
Too many bugs in this remaster. Audio repeating for no reason, lights glitching in and out, NPCs getting stuck on nothing, I had an entire miniboss fight with the enemy just standing there glitched. Some of the Big Daddies and Little Sisters just standing there staring off into space for an eternity. And one time I had to reset the game because an object was lodged into a crawl space making it impossible to move through until after reset.
