I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews because this game is so fun and addicting. I'm at work itching to get back home and play. support the developers cause this game is awesome even though it's in early access.

Pawsome Resort is a very cute concept and still under development so I thought that I would give some early on feedback on my initial experiences. This is directed more at developers than as a guide for people to decide to play the game, as I do think it will only get more enjoyable with time! Mostly important advice I can give to newer players is to finish the first quest involving the witch asap so you can get a very helpful sprite which makes gameplay more enjoyable and don’t worry too much about ratings! Otherwise I have set my review up into either gameplay or visuals in terms of thoughts.. Gameplay I can't wait for further development on interacting with the animals because sometimes I get so overwhelomed with everything else that I forget those little cuties are even there! Similar to stardew valley in the cuteness of it, and that you own some land and can farm. But also very different in that you have a main purpose which is to look after animals and that is where you earn the most amount of money and there isn’t as much depth in other areas of the game. Doesn’t require as much planning once you get the hang of it as stardew valley where you have to collect all these different things to make other things or complete quests. In pawsome resort you have a handful of different animal feed recipes and sometimes minimal collection requirements for quests but that’s about it! (This is the end of stardew valley comparisons as they do not have that many unique similarities when it comes to the sort of game but it is easy to compare to a more popular and established game!) You can’t craft anything, such as sprinklers, it has to be bought from the store. You can buy toys for the animals to play with (I wasn’t sure if it would work for the animals since there’s not really anywhere that suggests to do so, but cost of a ball was minimal to try it out) and they look really cute playing with them so I would recommend this. You get to acquire a boat after a quest and can use that to travel around which is cute, I wish that you could fish off of it because the idea of fishing in the middle of the ocean just seems so serene in the game. Interactions with townspeople is obviously still in development with a lot of repeated conversations (and I some how ended up in a relationship able to get married, next thing to try out, which I did not realise I was doing haha). I can’t wait for more depth in this area! The game itself feels very rushed to play in just the day to day, walking anywhere takes too much time so you have to take your vehicle otherwise you’ll loose half of your day trying to get to the mines or something only to have to come back to admit a guest. Or you have to farm for food because they eat so much food but then you are stuck on your farm every day just to keep up with food. I was going to stop playing before the first sprite started working (thank god for unpaid labour) and the second one also helped so much. I wish that either time didn’t pass so fast or it was faster to walk around. Game doesn’t pause when chests are open or if shopping, and time passes so quickly that if you’re browsing or trying to make recipes you can loose half of the day. On chests and completing recipes it would be so useful if any chests or fridges in the kitchen were automatically linked to the workbench as I have had to repeatedly check what ingredients I have or am missing to try and complete a recipe. I wish that you could put a no vacancy sign (I’m not at the stage in the game where I have a sprite thing to accept boarders if that is something that happens further down the line) but you get zero stars from someone no matter if you never talk to them to turn them away or if you do talk to them to turn them away. It would be more fun to play if there was less customers but their pets stayed for longer periods, like 7+ days, the ones that are only staying overnight just feel like a hassle. I do wish that reviews from people who didn’t get to board their pets weren’t as important as the reviews from owners with pets that boarded. I also don’t know if this end of day rating actually matters at all and have at times just ignored the bad reviews so I can go explore (it does hurt the soul to do so sometimes). Visuals I hope that in the future you will be able to change the layout or the animal pens once you get a feel of how it best suits you to lay eveything out! The house is huge but the furniture isn’t so it honestly feels quite empty all of the time. (Would probably feel coaster with a smaller house, or at least smaller rooms but more of them?) Furniture is also not that cohesive, feels like so many different styles but none that include all major furniture items or even just matching kitchen benches and workspaces and sinks. You can also only put one thing on a shelf at a time which makes them look sort of awkward. I do really like the variety of plants available for decoration! Sometimes I try to place something which I have multiples of, like a side table, and they all just disappear from both my inventory and house lol. The lighting makes it really hard to see at night, at the stage where I am trying to get heaps of side tables (as seen above) so I can put lamps on it as they cannot go straight on the floor. But each indoor or outdoor light does not give off as much light as I wish that they would. I think it would also be useful if a title of a persons house would pop up as your mouse scrolled over it on the map so that when certain quests require that you go to someone’s house you know where to go. There are certain locations that I randomly found on the days I was avoiding returning for customers so I had to time to explore more. I do also wish you can customise your avatar, even just the basics like skin colour, but that is also another aspect I feel like can develop with time. A lot of these aspects I know will be fixed or changed by developers and it will be fun to see the game grow!

Edit: Okay! I had left an initial review with some unorganized, initial thoughts, but after seeing several people defending this game with snark and bile to negative reviews I feel the need to elaborate on my issues with the game. If you want to take your helpfuls back that's fine. I've got things to say! There is nothing here that engrosses or even introduces us to the world beyond the tutorial and initial quests, all of which are very shallow. Consider the trendsetter, Stardew, that gives you the same set up (sort of) but also immediately introduces you to Lewis and Robin, characters with a distinct look and personalities. This sets a tone that then carries through of lively townspeople who interact with the player and each other, and to some people motivates them to do the quest to meet everyone. This is an example obviously, it is not something that every cozy game needs to copy and paste, but it demonstrates how a life sim needs to immerse the player into and introduce its world. There needs to be a reason to engage with the gameplay loop, and there isn't one here. Not with story certainly. So then game progression? If you don't care about the story or the characters and are willing to say that EA doesn't need to have these details sorted out (even though many life sims do in EA because it's an important part of the genre) then the gameplay loop needs to be engaging, and this is where I have to agree with other reviewers that it hands you things too fast and without reason. There is also no reason. You broke enough rocks and picked enough grass and now you can care for cats, horses, pandas or grizzlies? Why? And other than searching out a different kind of food there's no change in gameplay between bear and house cat? We don't need to get a special dispensation from the local vet for that at least? Then progress doesn't really matter. It's 1 habitat, 2 habitat, 3. And, as others have said, there's no energy bar, which isn't necessary but does mean that there's no challenge in having more pens. The day-to-day gameplay loop doesn't really vary. I have to admit my biggest disappointment was when the witch was annoyed after one of the early quests, and I was so ready to be cursed or have something happen to me that would cause an issue I needed to surmount or add some flavour and it was nothing. Genuinely, my favourite part was that I could put the pet on the back of my scooter, and that the little light on it turned on at night. I thought the fishing game mechanic was good. I think the animals could use a little more variety in their appearance. Maybe bows? collars? more color variation? If I'm going to see Bella 12 times on an ongoing loop could even the sheep have some character to it? I think it is fair to say this early release does feel pretty soulless. If that isn't your experience with the game then enjoy, but remember that Steam is an arena where a game only has 2 hours to engage it's audience and encourage them to keep playing. An hour is more than people would give a bad movie or a lame book, so it's more than fair to play an hour of this game and admit to yourself that it's just not hitting.

I would like to change my review to positive in the future because I really had high hopes for this game. I understand that it's still in a very early stage and there are thousands of things that will change soon. I want to leave my review for the developers : - The pace of the game is overwhelming; there's no time to deal with the resort's animals, explore, buy food, or get to know the characters. - The mushroom monsters you rescue to help you at the resort do their job very poorly (slow and clumsy). And rather than helping, they leave everything half-finished, so you end up having to do the work yourself if you want to provide good customer service. - It's not at all clear how to get married, or when or how to proceed. The dialogues are very repetitive, and sometimes the characters seem to want nothing to do with your existence except during very specific times. - There are tons of bugs. The character gets stuck a lot, both with the tractor and the boat, and walks ridiculously slowly without any vehicle... - The cutscenes feel completely empty and cheap. There's hardly any context, conversation, or anything interesting to make you want to investigate further or want more of the game. - The fact that the drinking trough don't refill automatically really bothers me. It's like you can automate everything, but I still have to do something as basic and tedious as filling bowls with water? That's supposedly what the monster mushrooms are for... - The animals have no variety (or rather, very little). All the cats are black and white, the dogs have no breed, the sheep are practically identical, and so on with all the animals... This is my opinion, and I've left out many aspects. I'd be happy to return to the game if you improve all these aspects. Best regards ~

I really want to enjoy this game but it needs some major changes. why do you progress from taking care of sheep, then cats, straight to PANDAS? that feels like such an insane jump to me. then it's back to more reasonable animals again, aka horses and dogs. like what???? you'd think the logical way to do this would be to start with more domestic animals before getting to the exotic ones, but no. it's so bizarre. the progression is all over the place and does not feel sensical or linear at all and none of it is ever really explained either, at least not as far as i've gotten. the setup for the story is even worse because what do you mean you fall asleep in your apartment and wake up in the resort? am I dreaming? did I die in my sleep and this is the afterlife? and the character does not seem bothered AT ALL. it's nonsense. maybe it gets explained later but I have a hard time conjuring an explanation that would be good enough to make me look past that awful opening. I guess I enjoyed the management part so far (even if the progression is nonsensical) but the story is severely lacking. there is zero substance. and while the game is in early access and there's a chance these could get fixed, there has been 0 communication or activity from the dev on their discord so far which is never a good sign for an early access game (edited to add the devs have now in fact been quite active in the discord, answering questions and fixing bugs, so that's great!) this is the first time i've felt the need to leave a negative review on a game in like a decade of having a steam account, so do with that what you will
