Game has a solid foundation but I cannot recommend it in its current state. Pros: - The game does its best to recreate the vibes of the '97 original. The kids largely retain their personalities and mannerisms down to the scenes that play when walking up to the plate. - In spite of using the '97 release as a baseline: it uses the rating system from the '01 re-release which gives a better idea of what the kids are good at. - Retains the sprint mechanic from the original but also adds sliding proving another option for getting on base. Unfortunately: this is pretty much it. Cons: - Defense is very clunky because of an inability to buffer actions as could be done in Humongous releases as well as the game's seeming inability to pick the most appropriate player to go after the ball once it's in the air. - Offense isn't much better. For starters: - Power hit is functionally pointless. Line Drive achieves home runs just as if not more reliably without popping the ball so far up in the air that's it's all but guaranteed to be an out if it doesn't go out of the park. - There are some behaviors that just don't make any sense such as the game automatically registering you as out if the ball strikes a building while above the top of the screen or the game sometimes registering a caught ball as an out after it bounces off a wall and sometimes not. - The pitching and running stats don't seem to actually mean anything with pitching being more input based than in the Humongous releases and pretty much all runners taking 3 seconds to run from one base to another without use of sprinting or sliding. - The Juice meter also doesn't seem to actually do anything beyond making timing a little more strict for proper pitches. - If you set the walk-up and home run music to classic and then exit the game: the game will forget about this setting when you boot it back up unless you open the settings and go to the sound tab again. I could forgive most of this if the game wasn't selling for $40. Pick it up on sale or wait until it's a little more refined. As of 7-25-26: the game is almost but not quite in a finished state.

Too many bugs, player stats mean almost nothing, and juice meter is completely irrelevant. This isn't even worth $10, much less $40. Just play 01 or 97.
